Although the Book module is great for creating a basic silo structured website, it limits your options to one node type. So what if you are using other content types for your pages, like videos or custom nodes created using CCK. One option you have is to use the Category module which provides book-like navigation for other node types.

Once you install the Category module into your module directory, you will need to temporarily change server permissions to chmod 777 on both the book and taxonomy folders in the modules directory. This will allow the Category wrapper for the Book and Taxonomy module to be installed

Navigate to the Modules administration page and select all the checkboxes for the Category module except Category Access Control Lite.

1. Go to Content Management > Categories. If you see 2 Category links, click on the one that says "Create containers and categories to categorize your content".
2. Click on the Settings tab and check to make sure the book and taxonomy wrapper is installed. Once these are installed, you will only see 1 Categories link under Content Management and Category will replace Book under Create Content.
3. On the same Settings page, click on Category Transformation Settings and select your chosen node type under "Node types that can be transformed into categories:". This will add a tab to your selected nodes.
4. Change the server permissions for both the ‘book’ and ‘taxonomy’ folders back to chmod 644.
5. Click on the Add Container tab. This is the top of your silo, unlike a taxonomy vocabulary which groups your silo terms. You don't need to change any of the default setting at this point.
6. When you create your nodes, click on the Category tab and select Category Information. Select your silo term in both the Container and Parent drop down menus.

By default your links will appear in the navigation menu. You can create a new menu and enable it in the blocks then add your silo containers to it. There are some known bugs with the Category module with regards to the menu system, so use with caution.
